Reading a used truck
The model year on the title is the chart you open. The sticker in the door is the truck you are buying.
Listings mix trims, axle ratios, and tow packages under one nameplate. Ask for the axle code, the tow package, the cab and bed, and a photo of the certification label. Then open that model year on this site and find the row, not the headline.
Wear items that towing punishes — transmission service history, cooler lines, brake controller, hitch bolts, and tire load range — are inspection items. They are not a new rating.
A truck from before a brand adopted SAE J2807 still has a real rating for its year. It is a poor side-by-side with a later chart. The compare tool keeps years separate so that mix-up is visible.
